Chicago Fire vs. Seattle Sounders - USOC #6 - 9:00 PM CST - Fox Soccer Channel

Tonight's Venue

This is Championship Soccer tonight. This is why teams are put together. This U.S. Open Cup tournament is what the Chicago Fire are about. Over 6 months have passed since Chicago started the journey and either way it will end tonight on CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Chicago must vanquish a foe they have never done so in 6 attempts to get their hands on the trophy. Dominic Oduro is the likely hero but Marco Pappa comes off being named MLS Player of the Week for scoring a hat trick after not scoring for two months. The Fire enter the game as an underdog but full of confidence. There's nothing more to say in preview, all there is to do is react. Here's your Starting XI:

Sean Johnson; Dan Gargan, Josip Mikulic, Cory Gibbs, Gonzalo Segares; Logan Pause, Pavel Pardo, Marco Pappa; Daniel Paladini; Dominic Oduro, Patrick Nyarko

The team looks like they want to win,

but I think it’s led to a few mistakes. Early on they were too happy to clear out of bounds and give up possession in order to not make a mistake. It also seems that everyone wants to be the hero, which is disrupting their usual flow as people move out of position to make the “big play”. Still, they’re all playing with a lot of heart.

My winter Transfer List.
Buy
1. Pardo
2. A DP… maybe Anelka
3. If not Pardo, Carlos Bocanegra (Who I believe is still ours)

Sell
1) Marco Pappa
2) That’s about it.

I am fine with re-signng Pardo...

a DP for sure too. Anelka would be nice, but I am not convinced we will spend that much. As for Pappa, I know he has his detractors, but can you really blame everything on him tonight?

And as much as I hate to say it...

Seattle deserved the game tonight. They clearly pushed the issue and had the better chances. You can’t expect to win when you have little offensive pressure. Definitely something to work on at the end of the season heading into next. The defense was stellar tonight, but you can’t be pressured that heavily and expect to escape every time.

I am so proud of the guys tonight. They fought with everything they had, and I look forward to us fighting for the USOC title again next year.

Props

Fire fans are some of the best. A lot of the pride in winning comes from knowing Seattle had to beat a team that respects the cup as much as we do.

Chicago Fire fans are class.

We just got home from the match and I’d like to say that your team played their hearts out tonight. Your fans chanted and sang even after the match was decided and you may have the best young keeper in MLS.

Cheers,
GFCKC

Mocking aside

It felt like the Sounders beat a worthy opponent tonight. Your away support was very noticeable, if not audible, and the Fire really did make a good game of it.

I'd like to echo this sentiment.

I felt like the Fire presence at the match was as good as any visiting team since RSL in the 2009 MLS Cup final. I heard the section a number of times throughout the match from the opposite corner, a feat I can’t recall another team matching.

Thanks for the kind words guys...

it’s always harder after the heat of a loss. You guys were the better team last night and deserved to win. Congrats on a 3rd consecutive title, it is very impressive. Hopefully we can get a good USOC rivalry going for the future.

USMNT Allocation Order

The allocation ranking is the mechanism used to determine which MLS club has first priority to acquire a U.S. National Team player who signs with MLS after playing abroad, or a former MLS player who returns to the League after having gone to a club abroad for a transfer fee. The allocation rankings may also be used in the event two or more clubs file a request for the same player on the same day. The allocations will be ranked in reverse order of finish for the 2010 season, taking playoff performance into account.

Once the club uses its allocation ranking to acquire a player, it drops to the bottom of the list. A ranking can be traded, provided that part of the compensation received in return is another club’s ranking. At all times, each club is assigned one ranking. The rankings reset at the end of each MLS League season.
