Wow, they picked up Ching regardless
I wonder if he will actually retire or just play another year, or possibly there’s other plans for him. I can’t really see why Philly let Mapp go, he was really good for them. I’m also surprised that they didn’t pick up anybody off of LA’s list

"Terry's down, oh my! Van Persie all by himself now, around Cech, and that'll do it!"
As someone else put it, Houston is in quite a pickle if they want to open their new stadium without their captain Brian Ching. It seems like they basically wanted to protect 12 players and they thought Ching had the most ‘gravitas’, ‘seniority’ or whatever you want to call it, in order to just leave him open.
If you don’t play by the rules, be prepared to be burned. Dynamo President Chris Canetti tweeted ‘Deeply disappointed that Ching was selected in draft. He is Forever Orange in my mind. We’ll have more on this as the situation plays out.’ Well, how could you have left him unprotected then if he is ‘Forever Orange’?
It’s possible that this is all a show and the Dynamo wanted to dump Ching’s salary all along but I don’t think so. Think they just wanted the rules not to apply to them.

I think he’ll play. He’s had a lot of injuries over the past couple of seasons, but he’s still only 33. He should have a couple of more injury plagued seasons left in him.
