Juan Agudelo's Goal Against DC United wins MLS Goal of the Week
by Tweed Thornton on Apr 29, 2011 12:58 PM CDT
New York Red Bulls' Juan Agudelo's two kick goal against DC United was the easy winner for Goal of the Week. His strike received 65% of the vote while Chad Barrett's goal finished a distant second with only 12%. You see so many goal videos now, I let the hype on this one pass. When I finally got around to it, I was quite impressed. NYRB was already up 3-0 in extra time so the result was academic but that doesn't take anything away from Jan Gunnar Solli's run down the field.
Solli sent a ground cross over to Agudelo. Despite being defended by two United players, Agudelo glently flicked the ball up and then smashed the ball in with his same foot after a second of movement. You could argue that the D.C. defenders were snoozing in a romp of their squad but Agudelo still had to have the skill to make that play happen. You can see why so many USMNT fans are excited about his play and why we should be envious of NYRB for having this 18 year-old player. Congratulations to Juan Agudelo. He'll certainly be a handful on June 26th when NYRB comes to town.

USMNT Allocation Order
The allocation ranking is the mechanism used to determine which MLS club has first priority to acquire a U.S. National Team player who signs with MLS after playing abroad, or a former MLS player who returns to the League after having gone to a club abroad for a transfer fee. The allocation rankings may also be used in the event two or more clubs file a request for the same player on the same day. The allocations will be ranked in reverse order of finish for the 2010 season, taking playoff performance into account.
Once the club uses its allocation ranking to acquire a player, it drops to the bottom of the list. A ranking can be traded, provided that part of the compensation received in return is another club’s ranking. At all times, each club is assigned one ranking. The rankings reset at the end of each MLS League season.
