Chicago Fire vs. Colorado Rapids - MLS #7: Game Thread

That's Captain Marco Pappa to you.

The Chicago Fire look to break their four game winless streak tonight against the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.  Carlos de los Cobos is returning to the 4-1-4-1 lineup we saw last year.  The Starting XI and your comments after the break.

Star-divide

Fire Starting XI:

Jon Conway; Jalil Anibaba, Josip Mikulic, Yamith Cuesta, Gonzalo Segares; Daniel PaladiniDominic Oduro, Corben Bone, Gaston Puerari, Marco Pappa; Diego Chaves

Daniel Paladini and Corben Bone will get their first starts of the season.  Gaston Puerari will get time in the midfield.  Dominic Oduro gets his first start on the midfield wing.  Marco Pappa is wearing the captain's arm band.  I've been curious to see all of these happen... but I don't know what I think about seeing it happen all at the same time.  The subs for tonight's game are:

Sean Johnson, Baggio Husidic, Dasan Robinson, Pari Pantazopoulos, Bratislav Ristic, Orr Barouch, Patrick Nyarko

Is Patrick Nyarko injured?  I thought Oduro earned the start for last week's game because the game was against his former club but why start him at right wing over Nyarko when Paladini, Bone, Oduro, and Puerari are in new roles?  I'm excited to get a look at Pari though.  I hope he gets subbed into the game.  Well, here's goes nothing I guess.

Shootout?

I’m predicting a shootout with all these attacking minded players out there. We should get plenty of shots on goal, but can we be efficient enough to cover the 3 goals we are likely to give up defensively?

If they can string passes together, sure.

With all of these new players, their timing could be off.

I hate this formation. It is way too attacking nd we are turning over our CM to a striker and two guys who haven’t seen the field. I expect to get torched tonight.

On the bright side, Colorado’s new English striker Forlan isn’t playing either. I assume he got injured recently.

Missing Forlan is big plus here

Great point. The Burgundy Wave told me the team was facing a bunch of small injuries. Forlan was one of them.

Our inexperience vs. their experience of working together as a squad won’t make matters any easier. I fear your are right on the torching.

Prove us wrong Fire please.

Akpan

Akpan is Colorado’s 5th string striker with only 3 caps ever, 1st start for the Rapids tonight. Safe to say ALL focus should be on shutting down Cummings.

At least Segares is getting up front? That’s two games in a row. Maybe he should work on his shooting more.

Seriously

what was the deal with that shot? It looked like jumpy nerves.

Oduro doesn’t usually play RM. That could have caused the jumpy nerves.

Patrick Nyarko would have passed the ball or dug deeper into the box.

Marshall picks up a yellow card

It looks like Pappa jumped into him on purpose. That’s what you get if you plant your feet though. Not a bad decision by Pappa. I just hope he is okay.

Puerari sets up a great loft pass to Oduro. Oduro passes a ball in to Pappa who back heels the ball into the net in the 43rd minute.

USMNT Allocation Order

The allocation ranking is the mechanism used to determine which MLS club has first priority to acquire a U.S. National Team player who signs with MLS after playing abroad, or a former MLS player who returns to the League after having gone to a club abroad for a transfer fee. The allocation rankings may also be used in the event two or more clubs file a request for the same player on the same day. The allocations will be ranked in reverse order of finish for the 2010 season, taking playoff performance into account.

Once the club uses its allocation ranking to acquire a player, it drops to the bottom of the list. A ranking can be traded, provided that part of the compensation received in return is another club’s ranking. At all times, each club is assigned one ranking. The rankings reset at the end of each MLS League season.
