Chicago Fire, Chicago Red Stars & Other Chicago/Midwest Championship Final Updates

Several teams from Chicago and the Midwest will be playing in championship games over the next 18 hours.  If you read the site earlier you already know about the Chicago Fire U-15 & U-19 clubs.  Today, the Chicago Red Stars defeated Tampa Bay Hellenic 2-1 to advance to the Women's Premier Soccer League Championship game tomorrow.  Local soccer clubs Eclipse Select, Chicago Magic, NSA Premier Fury, and FC Milwaukee have teams competing in U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Finals.  The schedule for all these games and the entire 2011 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Finals is after the break.  We'll be providing commentary and updating this page as we get information from a variety of sources.  If you have well wishes, your own updates to share, or whatever, let's hear it.  This is Chicago and the Midwest's time to shine.

UPDATE: Chicago Fire U-15 squad won the National ChampionshipCongratulations from everyone here at HTIOT.

Star-divide

Chicago Red Stars win; play Orange County Waves in WPSL Championship, Sunday, July 31 @ 1:00 PM CST

The Chicago Red Stars fought off Tampa Bay Hellenic and earned a 2-1 victory on Saturday in the Women's Premier Soccer League Semifinals to advance to Sunday's WPSL National Championship.  The Red Stars will kick-off at 1 p.m. at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex. Tickets for the WPSL National Championship are available at ChicagoRedStars.com.  The WPSL Championship will be webcast on the Red Stars' website as well as www.WPSL.info.

Red Stars forward Michele Weissenhofer (Naperville, Ill.) had a goal and assisted Chicago's second and game-winning tally from Julie Ewing (Batavia, Ill.). For Hellenic, Tatiana Mathelier netted a goal to cut Tampa Bay's deficit to 2-1. But the Red Stars held on the rest of the way. The Red Stars (11-1-0) and Tampa Bay (10-2-1) played through a scoreless first half. In the second half, Chicago's offense broke through. Weissenhofer scored less than a minute into the second half at the 46th minute. Amanda Cinalli (Cleveland, Ohio) provided the assist as Weissenhofer's strike went over Tampa Bay goalkeeper Emily Ball and underneath the crossbar for a 1-0 lead. In the 56th, Ewing headed in a goal from Weissenhofer to give Chicago a 2-0 cushion. But Hellenic stayed in the match as Mathelier found the inside of the far right post in the 74th minute to cut the Red Stars' lead to 2-1. That goal ended a string of shutouts for Chicago. The Red Stars had posted six straight shutouts before Mathelier's tally was driven past Red Stars goalkeeper Jamie Forbes (St. Charles, Ill.).

Scoring Summary

2011 US Youth Soccer National Championship Finals

All times are in Central Standard Time.  Teams bolded are local teams we are especially following.  I consider Milwaukee to exist in the Chicago/Milwaukee Super-region.  Feel free to disagree in the comments.  I'm tempted to bold the Michigan and St. Louis team but that might be getting too far.

USMNT Allocation Order

The allocation ranking is the mechanism used to determine which MLS club has first priority to acquire a U.S. National Team player who signs with MLS after playing abroad, or a former MLS player who returns to the League after having gone to a club abroad for a transfer fee. The allocation rankings may also be used in the event two or more clubs file a request for the same player on the same day. The allocations will be ranked in reverse order of finish for the 2010 season, taking playoff performance into account.

Once the club uses its allocation ranking to acquire a player, it drops to the bottom of the list. A ranking can be traded, provided that part of the compensation received in return is another club’s ranking. At all times, each club is assigned one ranking. The rankings reset at the end of each MLS League season.
