River Plate Sporting Director Rumbo Leonardo gave an interview which included discussion of the contract of Federico Puppo, the Chicago Fire's new forward. River Plate owned Puppo's contract and had loaned him to league rival Danubio for the past two months. According to Leonardo, Puppo's new contract runs for three years. The Fire own half of Puppo's rights, while River Plate retain the other half. The Fire hold the option to buy out River Plate over the next year. Leonardo said the Fire bought Puppo's rights, meaning a transfer fee was paid.. He also mentioned that Puppo initially did not want to move to MLS, but eventually relented.
