Fire in Florida; more signings to come?
In this interview with the Ave Herald, Klopas reports that there are 36 players in camp, but the team is expecting about 40. "We still have some signings to complete, and some players are still waiting for visas," he told the Herald.
Even though the Fire's various off-season moves have generally been well-received by fans, the potential of more new faces will be welcome news to those who feel the team still lacks a few key pieces -- like a proven striker.
[Editor's note]: HTIOT has received confirmation that one of the trialists down in Florida is Jon Okafor. Okafor was drafted No. 40 in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft after attending Brown University. After failing to latch on with Chivas USA, he was over in Europe trying to pick up a deal. The 6'1 product from New Jersey would likely have to be a fullback conversion experiment to have a hope of making the squad.

Possibly. I’d like more info from Frank on that one. I know that Robayo and Puppo are waiting for their visas to clear. He may be counting that whole process as ‘signings being complete’. He might also be referring to signing one or two of the draft picks.
Certainly seem light in the striker department.

Absolutely.
Teams typically don’t release their full list of camp players in order to protect their discovery claims. This quote from Frank could be nothing but it could be valuable. Right now still working on content from Thursday’s ‘quote-a-thon’, great find Mateu. I read this article and just kind of scanned over it.
This article over at Sounder at Heart is a good example of a player or two that could come out of camp and why it’s operated like this. Mauro Rosales was originally listed as ‘trialist’ last year.

HTIOT’s most trusted source for college player information, Joe Mauceri, ranked Okafor a ‘D’ going into the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
