Breaking News: Chicago Fire sign striker Kheli Dube
The Fire have made official the signing of Kheli Dube, their lone pick in the 2011 MLS re-entry draft. This builds on the busy offseason the Fire have had, with Dube becoming their fifth player added to the Fire roster this offseason. Follow me after the break for a couple of comments and some info on Dube...
This signing further helps bolster the Fire offensive ranks. Although Dominic Oduro had a breakout season last year, the Fire hope some of the new signings they have made this offseason will help raise the Fire's goal scoring tally even more in 2012. Head coach Frank Klopas had kind words of praise for the Dube signing:
“Kheli has been an offensive threat since he came into the league,” said Chicago Fire head coach Frank Klopas. “He’s a gritty, hard working striker that plays for the badge. Since joining us in preseason Kheli has shown his desire to be part of our club.”

is this blog new?
I’ve been on some of the other SB nation blogs before but don’t recall seeing this before.
Hopefully, people will notice it and start chatting a bit more so that the popularity increases. I don’t participate in these often but read them occasionally so I do appreciate the updates. Information on the Fire is usually hard to find.
Thanks for stopping by to check us out...
we just hit the 500th day that Hot Time In Old Town has been on SB Nation. We are really starting to grow now and are expecting to continue that in the future. We hope you stop by here regularly to keep up on all things Fire. We also feature USMNT coverage, and some various other soccer coverage as well.

Yeah, we’ve been around since the fall of 2010. Your post had us looking up to see how long in days as a matter of fact. Thank you for commenting and reading.
Hopefully you’ll be of the opinion we cover the team too much before you think we ever write too little.

I don't think we'll be having any near 3 game nil-nil draw streaks this season!
That was so frustrating last year.
Yeah, that was a rough stretch...
it seemed like we couldn’t buy a goal. I agree that we shouldn’t have that problem this year.

Fortunately, he doesn't...
he holds a green card, so he qualifies as a domestic player. I like this signing, I think he will be a valuable addition to the club and add another goal scoring threat.

Would have been very against the signing if he took up an international spot.
Also, per the Chicago Fire Rumor Mill on the side of this page, it looks like Cuesta is on his way out. That would open up another international spot.

I remember you saying recently you thought Cuesta might be on the way out...
I wonder if we have any other signings up our sleeves (or Frank’s sleeve in this case)?? Our squad would seem to be pretty full as it is, so I don’t see a DP unless it is a pretty big name or great opportunity. If that happens, sweet, and if not, it’s always nice to have international slots open anyway.
