Ivan Guerrero training with FIre
via www.elheraldo.hn
The former Man in Red may be a part of the Fire's future. Honduran websites El Heraldo and La Prensa are repoting that former Fire midfielder Ivan Guerrero is training with the Fire at their pre-season camp in Ave Maria, Florida. La Prensa also claimed Guerrero was "very close" to signing with the Fire. The 34 year old Honduran midfielder spent three seasons with the Fire and was named the team Defender of the Year in 2005. He also has 85 caps with the Honduras national team.
Guerrero said in an interview in December that he would not play for a Honduran club, but left open the possibility of playing for a foreign club. It looks like that club might be the Fire.

My thoughts exactly...
good for depth, but considering we could still use another winger or forward, and we ESPECIALLY need CB cover, this is surprising. Definitely still a good signing, hopefully there is still defender help on the way. I am confident Frank will be able to get somebody in before the season.

He'll be competition for Videira.
With Banner gone, Videira and Pause are our only defensive minded midfielders.
I don't rate Videira at all...
Paladini should be mentioned as a DM way before Videira is…

Of course Paladini is better than Videira...
but Videira is on the roster too. We need a backup destroyer, I’d be worried about our defense if Pause got hurt.
Agreed that depth is always good...
but if something happened to Pause, Paladini could fill that role in a bind. So Videira is really a 3rd option then. Again, it’s certainly not a bad signing if we get Guerrero. I believe we have more pressing needs that also need to be addressed right now than a back up DM. That is all I was saying. We need to fill the CB gap before all else I think.

Anytime Pause has not played...
due to injury or the odd international call up, the team has never missed a beat (we even played better when he got called up by Bradley). Pause is not a difference maker, hence it makes little difference if he gets hurt.
Uh, hmm
I’m assuming that he’s coming in as depth all along the left side. In that capacity, awesome – I love Ivan’s game. This gives me a feeling that Frank really wants to play pass-and-move – at 34, I can’t imagine he wants Guerrero dashing into the corners all night long.
I believe Guerrero would come in as a backup to Segares and Gargan. He would count as domestic. He might play for close to the minimum. He would bring veteran experience and some Fire experience too. This could be very, very good.

Agreed that I would expect him to serve on the left side like he used to, back in the day. He started as a left midfielder, but we used him quite a bit as a left defender. I really enjoyed his time here. If he still has anything left in the tank, he’s a smart player with a lot of experience, so he would be a positive addition. He’s got a good attitude, too, though I remember him being quieter than many.
defensive cover
I agree w/ Sean, Twed and Fuegofan … adding a quality player with years of experience as competition at LB, RB and even LM would be brilliant if the $$ was do-able … also, his locker room leadership alone would be well worth it.
