See You At Toyota Park?

Let's jump right into it. I'm a longtime soccer fan without an MLS team, who happens to be relocating to within reasonable driving distance of Chicago, and unreasonable driving distance of every other MLS city save for Columbus. Additionally, I have family in Chicago who I plan to visit regularly. For those reasons, The Men in Red have a huge leg up on winning my allegiance, but will I be making a huge mistake? And if so, will it be a huge mistake I stand proudly by for decades or one that I pretend never happened in a year or two?

Most of my rooting energy is, at this point, dedicated to Tottenham Hotspur, the Golden State Warriors (though, this year, it's a fact I've tried to hide) and the USMNT. I like teams that don't mess around and go right after you. In the case of Spurs, it means hitting their opponents with serious speed. For the Warriors, it means shooting without giving half a crap about anything else. The USMNT is scrappy and doesn't back down from a challenge. What should I expect from the Fire? I've seen a game or two of theirs, but this will be my first season really making an effort to follow the league, so my knowledge is really incomplete.

Second, I need to know something that I can't find out from televised games. How's the atmosphere? What's it like to support the Fire? I'm a Minneapolis native who became a Warriors fan because my northern Californian father took me to the Oracle arena as a kid and there was nothing the Timberwolves could do to top that experience. I became a Spurs fan while sitting in a Dublin bar, watching Spurs beat Arsenal and getting wrapped up in the moment. I watched that game to try on the fandom and see how it felt on me; I left jumping up and down, hugging a stranger who, after the go-ahead goal, shouted "C'mere, lad! Let's have a cuddle!" With that in mind, how's Toyota Park? Are Fire supporters few and far between or will I actually meet someone in a Fire jersey from time to time?

Tell me what I'm about to get myself into. What are your defining moments as fans? Obviously, I won't be able to "make a decision" about what team calls to me based on a few blog responses, but hearing some fan voices might at least open that door for me. Any response will be much appreciated.
