Columbus Crew rookie midfielder and Chicago area native Kirk Urso passed away on Saturday night. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Urso family.

All of us at Hot Time in Old Town were saddened to hear that former Chicago Fire PDL and Columbus Crew midfielder Kirk Urso passed away last night at the age of 22.

Urso was born in nearby Lombard, Ill. and played his college ball at the University of North Carolina. He spent the 2010 PDL season playing for the Fire Premier (PDL) side.

This past January, Urso was drafted by the Crew with the 10th overall pick in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft and immediately earned himself playing time during the 2012 season. He played in six matches, five of them starts, before picking up a right adductor injury. His MLS career ended with one assist.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Urso family and the Crew organization at this very difficult time.
