In a sudden announcement, midfielder Robbie Rogers announced he is stepping away from soccer to focus on personal issues. The Fire acquired Rogers' MLS rights earlier this month.

Robbie Rogers, former U.S. Men's National Team, Leeds United and Columbus Crew midfielder, has announced that he is gay and that he is quitting professional soccer. He is a player the the Fire have the rights to thanks to the Dominic Oduro/Dilly Duka trade earlier this month.

Everyone here at Hot Time In Old Town is happy for Robbie. It is not easy for anyone to announce that they are gay knowing there are still people like Chris Culliver out there in the world. It is a brave act and probably brings much relief to Robbie.

The supporter group Whiskey Brothers Aught Five have written a touching open letter to Robbie over on Pitch Invasion

We here at HTIOT congratulate Robbie on his courage and wish him well in his future outside of professional soccer. But if the Whiskey Brothers convince Robbie to return to soccer, we'd be more than happy to see him in Fire red.
