The Fire should continue to cruise tonight in the second to last tune up before the start of the 2013 MLS season
After a couple of quite days, the Fire are back in action tonight against the Battery for the 2nd game of CCC play. The Men in Red notched a 3-2 win back on February 16th against the Dynamo. The victory was propelled by goals from Sherjill MacDonald and Jeff Larentowicz, as well as a Houston own goal. The Fire reserves followed this up with a 4-2 over Coastal Carolina University the next day with goals from Maicon Santos, Alex, Wells Thompson (yes Wells Thompson), and Colin Rolfe.
It's encouraging to see so many quality contributions already in preseason from many different players. It's not just one player shouldering the load so far this year, and that's a mark of a deep team. From new additions (Lindpere, Santos, Larentowicz) all playing well, to draftees tearing it up (Atouba), the stage seems to be set for the Men in Red to roar out of the gates to start 2013. before that happens, the Fire have tonight's game, and then a final CCC matchup with Vancouver on Saturday. Then it's back home to Good 'Ol Chicago to prepare for the season opener.
I will again attempt to stream the game tonight on HTIOT. For those that missed it the other day, the CCC games are being streamed from the USLNation website rather than coming from the Fire as earlier pre-season games did. Thus, we don't get an embed code to use. Short of special software, I am still attempting to figure out a workaround. If all else fails, you can catch the action live over at chicago-fire.com/live.
Only 11 more days until the season opener Fire fans!
