The rumored trade between the Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders is now official. Here are the details per the press release:
The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Wednesday that they have acquired defenders Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Patrick Ianni and the 13th overall selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft from the Seattle Sounders FC in exchange for defender Jalil Anibaba, the eight overall selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and a conditional third round selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
So there you have it. The Fire get Hurtado and Ianni for Anibaba along with the two teams swapping their first round picks in this year's SuperDraft, and the Fire giving Seattle a conditional pick in the third round of the 2015 SuperDraft.
This means that the Seattle Sounders now supposedly have the cap room to go after former Fire winger Marco Pappa.
For the Fire, Hurtado ($190,000) and Ianni ($150,000) do not come cheap, and it would be hard to see the Sounders picking up much of their cap space, if at all, like Philly did with Bakary Soumare.
Speaking of Soumare, Philly is still picking up a portion of his cap space for 2014, but it is a smaller portion than in 2013. According to the September 15 salary figures, Soumare's base salary is listed at $310,000 (Soumare equals two Patrick Iannis). The bottom line is that the Fire currently have $650,000 of cap space going to three centerbacks. Taking all of this financial information into consideration, it is possible that Soumare might be on his way out at some point.
