Fire kick off the 2015 MLS Regular Season at Los Angeles

In this article published last Friday, the MLS announced the slate of home openers for the 2015 season, the first of which will be the LA Galaxy's home opener on Friday, March 6, 2015 against our very own Chicago Fire, in a rematch of the 2013 season opener (which ended in a disgusting 4-0 thrashing of the Men in Red). It will be broadcast on UniMas live at 9 PM CT as part of UniMas' new weekly Friday Night MLS showcase.

The Men in Red will be playing in home openers three straight weeks, as they will follow up the Galaxy's home opener (and 5th Championship Banner ceremony) with their own home opener on a week later, on Saturday, March 14, when they face the Vancouver Whitecaps at a time not yet determined. One guesses it will be an early afternoon start given how early in the year (read: how cold) the home opener takes place on. The following Sunday, March 22, the Fire travels back west to face the San Jose Earthquakes in their new stadium, Avaya Stadium, on the Quakes' home opener.

Quick thoughts: boy, the scheduling is NOT friendly to the Fire. Opening against the champion on the road, going home to a cold Toyota Park, then going right back on the road to the West Coast to open a new stadium is exhausting. I think it could have been scheduled far better: maybe the Quakes open their home against the Fire on week 2 rather than week 3 as scheduled (they don't have a game scheduled yet on week 2), and the Fire get to start the season on a two-game road trip like last year, rather than traveling cross-country as much as they would be under this schedule. This also means that the Fire would hold their home opener on March 22, which would be a little better for the Fire travel-wise and weather-wise.

What are your thoughts on the published schedule so far?
