Grant Ward's impressive showings throughout his month-long trial with Chicago Fire had #cf97 fans buzzing - the 19-year-old's pace, cleverness and versatility filled so many needs on the roster, and seemed to mesh instinctively with the other young players on the roster. The only questions that remained involved whether the club could come to terms with Tottenham for a loan, a prospect that Fire head coach Frank Yallop seemed sanguine was in the offing.
Today, we entered the 'gang aft agley' portion of the program, as Ward's loan move is thrown into disarray by an injury in training:
Fractured 5th metatarsal, looks like I'm chilling in the uk :(

Ward's tweet seems to indicate he was about to chill somewhere besides the UK, which presumably means his loan was in the final approval stages. Now, apparently, any such move would have to wait until he completes rehabilitation, which generally runs 3-6 months for this type of injury. Here's to a quick recovery for Ward, and the hopes that we could yet see him in Fire red in 2014.
