Introduce me to the Fire

Hey, all.

My name is Brent Brookhouse, I'm a dude who writes about MMA and boxing here at SB Nation. I am also, admittedly, a "new World Cup fan" who is deciding to try to stick around the sport a while.

I grew up playing soccer, I did stuff like those old Reebok camps, played a couple years for a local traveling team, but quit playing once I got old enough that sports overlapped in ways where you couldn't just play everything. So I'm not a complete blank slate when it comes to the sport, but I certainly have not regularly followed the game as a fan at any point in my life.

The World Cup certainly kindled an interest in the game and I'm trying to see it through, which may be more possible now than any other point in my life now that I sit in my house and write for a living.

Given that I'm about 90 minutes outside Chicago in Southwest Michigan and lived in Chicago (well...the 'burbs) for a few years, it only makes sense for me to latch on to the Fire. I went so far as to go ahead and subscribe to Direct Kick just to make sure that I can watch games and also to kind of form a monetary commitment to fandom. i.e. If I don't watch I'm just throwing money down the drain.

So...what should I know about the Fire right now? What should I look for? What is the most enjoyable part of being a fan? Just...fill me in.

I'll be sticking around the site in the coming days/weeks/months and hope to get a chance to talk to some of you in the near future.

Also, feel free to follow me at @BrentBrookhouse since...you know...gotta keep that follower count up.
