The new power rankings came out earlier this week prior to last night's victory over FC Dallas. To no one's shock, the Fire dropped two places from 8th to 10th place. Losing to the struggling Timbers rightfully moved them down and the Dynamo and Rapids were there to capitalize.

SB Nation Power Rankings

Team Avg. LW
1. RSL 1.63 1.88
2. Sounders 2.25 2.35
3. Earthquakes 3.06 2.59
4. Red Bulls 4.25 5.06
5. Sporting KC 5.13 4.29
6. D.C. United 5.88 7.35
7. Whitecaps 7.5 7.71
8. Dynamo 8.19 8.06
9. Rapids 8.94 8.71
10. Fire 9.56 8.65
11. Revolution 11.94 12.71
12. Galaxy 12.94 10.76
13. FC Dallas 13.56 12.88
14. Chivas USA 14 15.24
15. Impact 14.13 14
16. Crew 14.88 14.71
17. Timbers 15.75 16.59
18. Union 17.69 17.53
19. Toronto FC 18.81 18.82

After last night's 2-1 win over Dallas, one would think that the Fire would shoot up in the standings but, I don't believe that will happen. A shaky first half saw very little cohesiveness in the middle of the field. The defense was not impressive either. Austin Berry looked the shakiest of all 4 defenders. The failure to impress will not make the Fire movers. That's unless, of course, the Fire destroy Columbus!

With an overall look at the rankings, I believe Chivas USA should be ranked higher. Not only did they beat an inconsistent but not helpless Galaxy squad, they also face the two teams at the top the power rankings, Seattle and RSL, in their next two games. Their team got better with the recent trades and they have until June 16th to put everything together in training before taking on RSL. The team that may drop a couple of spots is the Seattle Sounders. A tie to the Whitecaps and a defeat to the Crew yesterday should give them some hurt in the standings. Chivas USA looms large as their next opponents followed by the Impact and Sporting KC.

Do you agree with the current rankings? Who do you think will gain or drop the most with the midweek games and the upcoming weekend games?
