Coming off a glorious 3 points last night from our Men in Red, Fire fans should be in a pretty good mood today. We have done an open thread for other soccer games before here at HTIOT and it seems like it has gone over pretty well. For that reason I thought I would set one up and host it today for the 2 MLS matches taking place.
Both matches have implications for the Fire in terms of the Eastern conference standings. The first match kicks off at 3PM CST on ESPN, as the Red Bulls host the Sounders. I know how Fire fans feel about Seattle, but it would be better for New York to lose today. As hard as that is to say, that would keep them in a tie (although ahead on goal differential) with the Fire. I don't know if I can bring myself to cheer for Seattle despite the circumstances.
At 8PM on Galavision, Houston hosts DC United in new BBVA Stadium. This is an even bigger game in terms of the standings in the East, as DC sits just two points ahead of the Fire, and Houston sits 6 points behind. A win by either team would have some impact on the standings. Honestly, I am kind of hoping for a draw in this one to minimize the gain either team could get on the Fire.
As usual, I will post lineups when announced. If you feel like slinging some Sunday soccer talk, please feel free to join us. The open gamethreads have been pretty fun in the past. Enjoy your soccer Sunday everyone!
