The Castrol Index Weekly Top 20 was released today, and Sean Johnson sits at numero uno. Johnson edged out two other goal keepers - Tally Hall and Zac MacMath - to get the top spot. Here is what the weekly feature article over at MLS website had to say:
Johnson earned 1,645 points by posting a shutout in the Fire's 3-0 win over D.C. United, 39 points ahead of Hall. Hall stopped all five shots on target while recording a clean sheet in the Dynamo's 1-0 win over Montreal Impact. MacMath – also the winning 'keeper in a 1-0 contest – stopped all four Toronto FC shots on target.
Sean was not the lone Fire player on this week's top 20. Both Jeff Larentowicz and Bakary Soumare also made it on to the list. Jeff is ranked 14th on the list with 1,057 points, and Bakary is ranked at 17th with 967 points. I normally do not give any credence to this strange alchemy that is the Castrol Index, but I felt it is worth mentioning for this week at least.
Sean Johnson also had a save nominated for Save of the Week. In my opinion, I think the save he was nominated for was not his best save of the night. The save he was nominated for displayed Johnson's reflexes, but the save that I think is better really shows Johnson's athletic ability. Maybe the Staff at MLSsoccer.com should have nominated both of them?
In the end, it's all moot. Donovan Ricketts has this week's SOTW all locked up.
Either way, we here at HTIOT would like to congratulate Johnson on the accolades. It is well deserved.
