Major League Soccer has put out their nominees for their year-end awards. As we all expected, Chicago Fire forward Mike Magee is nominated for the Volkswagen Most Valuable Player award. There were a handful of players who were worthy of an M.V.P. nomination, but the MLS has decided to nominate Montreal Impact's Marco Di Viao, LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane along with Mike Magee.
Good arguments could be made for all three players. Just as the Fire were so much better with Mike Magee, both the LA Galaxy and Montreal Impact were much better teams with Keane and Di Vaio respectively. With that said, Magee has a really good shot at winning the award regardless of the fact that the Fire did not make the playoffs.
Mike Magee is not the only Fire player getting recognition from the league. Fire defender Jalil Anibaba is nominated for the Xbox Fair Play Award. A nomination for this award is based on fouls committed, cards received and subjective observations of being really swell guys. Jalil's competition in the award are Real Salt Lake's Nat Borchers and Portland Timber's Darlington Nagbe. The winner of the award receives freshly picked daffodils from Mark Geiger.
