College Cup 2013: Notre Dame Downs New Mexico With Hodan Brace

Notre Dame advances to the NCAA College Cup Final for men's soccer.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Patrick Hodan scored goals in the 7th and 65th minutes to lift the Fighting Irish over New Mexico in the NCAA College Cup Tournament. Notre Dame will face the winner of the Maryland - Virginia match on Sunday.

Potential Chicago Fire Homegrown player Harrison Shipp assisted Patrick Hodan on both of his goals. Shipp also had four shots in the game with one shot on goal.

Both Notre Dame and New Mexico are the two strongest defenses left in the tournament. Notre Dame out shot New Mexico 11 to 10. New Mexico's two big offensive threats, Michael Calderon and Niko Hansen, were held to only four shots with three on goal.

Other statistics of note - Notre Dame only had to make one substitution in the entire game with Leon Brown coming in for Evan Panken in the 64th minute. A sign that New Mexico was not able to handle Notre Dame's offense: New Mexico committed a total of 12 fouls to Notre Dame's 4.
