MLS Coaching Carousel: Montreal Hires Frank Klopas

Monsieur Klopas will need to brush up on his French.

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

I am not going to lie, but I did not see this one coming. Apparently there was some fire to the smoke as the Montreal Impact have announced that Frank Klopas will be their new head coach. He will not just be their head coach, but he will also be their Director of Player Personnel (or Directeur du Personnel des Joueurs according to Google Translate).

With Klopas coming in, it means that Marco Schällibaum is out as the head man in Montreal. Some of the rumors circulating towards the end of the season suggested that Schällibaum was not interested in coming back even if Montreal wanted him to.

While Klopas will have a duel role at the club, he will not be bringing any of his other former staff with him. All of Montreal's technical staff will still have jobs for next season.

Things just got interesting between Montreal and Chicago. If I remember correctly, the last time the Fire had to face a team being run by a former coach Fire right after they exited the club was Juan Carlos Osorio back in 2007 when he left the Fire for the New York Red Bulls.
