As an obsessed Chicago Fire fan, I am always on the look out for new ways to connect with other fans and stay in touch with the beautiful game. Fortunately, there are a number of activities this week and next that will feed my obsession this off-season. For those of you who don't have the obsessive drive to follow the twitter feeds, read all the web pages and search the web for activities relating to the Fire community, I have compiled a few upcoming activities for you here. Enjoy.
Section 8 Chicago
Are you are someone who stands at the Harlem End for matches and actively participates in matches? Here is your chance to stay involved in the off-season. Section 8 Chicago is holding their monthly board meeting this evening at the Atlantic Bar and Grill at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
World Cup Draw
This Friday, December 6th, the Chicago Fire and Fado Irish Pub and Restaurant are hosting a 2014 World Cup Draw Bracket Brunch! Festivities begin and 10 a.m. and run until 12 p.m. If you are off or can sneak away from work, the Bracket Brunch should be a fun event filled with excitement to see who Sean Johnson and the other US nationals will face next summer in Brazil. The USA Soccer supporters group American Outlaws Chicago have been advertising the event on twitter, so it should be a fun and exciting crowd.
Also Happening on Friday
Open tryouts for the Chicago Fire Soccer Club begin this Friday, December 6th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for all participants. Call backs from the previous day will be invited back Saturday September 7th at 9:00 am. Fire fans will remember that in the 2011 tryouts Chicago native and Fire defender, Pari Pantazopoulos, emerged from over 200 candidates. Open tryout candidates are highly unlikely to see first team time, but it is a great opportunity for the Fire to open their doors and give an opportunity to Fire fans and the community at large.
Holiday Toy Drive
There is still time to get involved with the toy drive that the Chicago Fire Foundation (CFF) is conducting in partnership with the Chicago Spurs supporters club and the Atlantic Bar and Grill. The purpose of the drive is to collect toys for impoverished children in the Chicago community. The CFF and Chicago Spurs are asking fan to drop off new and unopened toys to a drop box at the Atlantic Bar and Grill.
If you want to be involved, you have until Saturday, December 14th to drop your toys off in the box located next to the bar at the Atlantic Bar and Grill at 5062 N Lincoln Ave Chicago, IL 60652. The drive's sponsor, the Chicago Spurs, ask that all toys be new and in their original packaging.
In addition, there is another wonderful event you can be part of as well. On the evening of Saturday, December 14th, the Chicago Fire Foundation will be joining the Chicago Spurs for a holiday party at the Atlantic Bar and Grill. The Atlantic is offering a generous deal to anyone who brings an unopened toy. All those who donate a toy can enjoy $10.00 all-you-can-eat fish and chips!
Annual Chicago Fire Merchandise Sale benefiting the Chicago Fire Foundation
Come out to Toyota Park next Saturday, December 14th for the annual Chicago Fire Merchandise Sale. All money earned will benefit the Chicago Fire Foundation, which is involved in community outreach and community service throughout the year. The even runs from 8 a.m. until noon.
Let's all stay connected with each other and the Chicago Fire as we move into the busy holiday season!
