I'm Coming Home: Mike Magee Returns to the Windy City

After yesterday's acquisition of Bakary Soumare, the Fire followed up that move with an even bigger transaction today

News started leaking out a handful of hours ago that a deal was finally close for the rights of Robbie Rogers. We all know he had been training with the Galaxy recently and wanted to return to the game. He stated his preference to do it close to home, which we all respect.

Talk then centered around what sort of deal could be made. While the prevailing notion involved the name of Mike Magee, most thought that this was a "moon shot" and the Fire would have to settle for far less. That lesser amount being some sort of combination of allocation money and a draft pick or two. If the Fire really pressed the issue maybe they could get a player in return also.

As of yesterday, not many people could have expected this. Guillermo Rivera over at Fire Confidential tweeted yesterday that there would be an interesting next couple of weeks ahead for the Men in Red. And he couldn't have been more right. With this move, the Fire have secured a dynamic player that is certain to make things happen. With this team struggling to do anything right lately, the past 2 days have been a huge boost for a fanbase clamoring for a bit of good news. Fire fans finally have something to celebrate in 2013.

Although the club has not officially confirmed the deal (expected to be announced tomorrow), it's done. I have to give credit to the front office on the past couple of days. They made a couple of big moves to fill some holes on the team. While we have all been critical, especially of late, credit has to be given where it is due. This team still has some holes to fill, and the summer window still needs to be active. But a couple of positive steps have been taken in the right direction the past 24 hours.
