So after adding four players in the draft along with signing two homegrowns, you'd think the Fire were done bringing in new players, right? Wrong. The Chicago Fire picked up University of North Carolina Charlotte forward, Guiseppe Gentile in the MLS Waiver Draft on Friday.
Player Stats
Class: Junior
School: UNC Charlotte
Position: Forward
Height/Weight: 6'0"/165 lbs.
Goals/Assists: 27/11
Appearances: 67
Who is Gentile? Here is what Simon Borg wrote about him earlier in the week:
Gentile, who holds Swiss and American dual citizenship, is considered a prototypical No. 9 forward. According to his college scouting report, he's an athletic, powerful runner and hard worker who runs the channels and likes to get in behind defenders. He scored 27 goals in three seasons at UNC Charlotte and was the team's leading assist man in 2012.
Gentile was available in the Waiver Draft because he recently declared to leave school early and signed a contract with MLS this past week.
Judging from his highlights below, it appears that Gentile has a lot of potential.
