If the Fire Academy's work can be described as agricultural, then portents are aligning that could indicate a bumper crop in the not-too-distant future. Today, for instance, three Fire Academy players were called up to the 20-man USA U-18 squad for a trip to Marbella, Spain.
The three Fire Academy players selected are Collin Fernandez, a 17-year-old attacking midfielder recently signed to a Homegrown Player contract with the Fire; Cam Lindley, 17, a central midfielder from Carmel, Indiana; and Mauricio Pineda, also 17, a skilled defender who is gradually outgrowing the appellation 'Victor's little brother.' The callups are becoming commonplace for the trio - all three were summoned for the USA U18s for camps in April and August, as well.
The current outing to Andalusia will run from Dec. 11 to Dec. 20, and will include two friendlies against a German U18 side which will, presumably, also be vacationing working out in the Spanish resort town.
One wonders what the lads will find to do when they're not training.
