Consolation Prize: Amarikwa and Johnson Nominated for Weekly Awards

Amarikwa's equalizer up for Goal of the Week

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday was a tough day for the Chicago Fire. Conceding a game winner so late in a game alone is heart breaking, but we now have a bit of a losing streak going against a team that, while much improved from last season, is still probably not going to even sniff the playoffs when the season is all said and done. It is enough to put a nice little rain cloud over the start of the season.

But that rain cloud does have a silver lining. Two silver linings to be exact.

The first silver lining is Sean Johnson's brilliant save on Mauro Rosales' free kick has been nominated for Save of the Week. He is up against some stiff competition from Jamie Pinedo, who had a nice quick reaction save, and the ever-present Nick Rimando, who stonewalled a Robbie Keane penalty kick to preserve a Real Salt Lake victory.

The second silver lining is that Quincy Amarikwa's goal that he literally made from nothing has been nominated for Goal of the Week. Amarikwa also faces a tough group of nominees. Vancouver midfielder, Sebastian Fernandez, has an impressive long distance strike up for nomination courtesy of some poor Red Bull defending, and Dallas FC midfielder, Mauro Diaz, has a great curling free kick up for nomination as well.
