Red Stars Finalize Roster, CF97 Reserves Rout Marquette

Fire Reserves win a friendly and Red Stars pick their team while preparing for season opener.

The Chicago Red Stars finalized their roster on Monday. There were no major surprises but the team did sign two trialists. Kecia Morway is a 22-year-old defender from Colorado College who hails from Lake Villa, Illinois. The second trialist signed, Samantha Johnson, is also a 22-year-old defender; Johnson played college ball for USC.

The team will wait for new signing Christen Press to finish the Champions League in the spring with her Swedish team before she joins the Red Stars. Melissa Tancredi will join the team in June after she finishes chiropractic school. Tancredi joined the team this off-season and will probably play up top with Press when they both join the team.

The Red Stars played their last two preseason games versus DePaul University and Oakland University (MI). They drew 0-0 against DePaul and defeated Oakland 2-0 thanks to goals from Alyssa Mautz and Lori Chaulpny. Their season opener is April 19th right after the Fire versus Revolution game.

Fire Reserves rout Marquette

On Sunday, the Fire Reserves took on Marquette University in a friendly on the Toyota Park practice field and came out winners in a 4-0 rout. The team was a mix of reserve players and academy kids.

Andrew Gutman was the lone academy starter but Alex Underwood, James Myall, Oscar Gonzales and Qudus Lowal were academy kids who made substitute appearances during the game. Kann, Gentile and Barouch were the first team players who came on as substitutes. Goals were scored by Anangono, Pineda, Gutman and Barouch, with Gutman's chipped finish on the third goal particularly impressing. The Fire do not have any more reserve friendlies planned so for now it is back to the MLS reserve league for the team.

Thoughts on the reserve game? Like seeing the academy kids play? Excited for the Red Stars season?
