A week from today, an amateur team from Buffalo Grove hosts a club representing USL Pro in the second round of the US Open Cup. For Schwaben AC, the Dutch Lions of Dayton may as well be the Dutch national team. Alright – that’s a stretch. Dayton play their home games in a 3,000 seat stadium at West Carrollton High School. That doesn’t even sniff MLS standards, but in comparison, dwarfs the roughly 500 available spots – both seated and standing – at Schwaben’s athletic center.
The term "athletic center" is almost an exaggeration for what is essentially, a giant field of grass where most youth teams anywhere in the country play. Could the unfamiliar setting play spoiler for the Dutch Lions as they face a relatively unknown squad of amateurs? Make your way out to the north suburbs on Wednesday, May 14 and find out.
When is the game? Wednesday, May 14. Kickoff is set for 4pm CT.
Where is Schwaben AC? Located in Buffalo Grove, IL on 301 N Weiland Rd. Whether you’re driving from the north or south, you’ll be exiting at Lake Cook Rd and heading west until you’ve reached Weiland. Once you head north on Weiland Rd, the field will be on your left hand side, with additional parking likely available on your right. If you’ve hit Pauline Ave, you’ve already gone too far.
Where can I get tickets? Tickets will be available at the gate on the day of the game for $10.00 per ticket.
What is Schwaben AC? In existence since 1926, the soccer organization fields boys and girls teams from the U-8 to the U-16 level, aside from the adult side that will be in action on May 14.
Who are the Dayton Dutch Lions? Founded in 2009, the Dutch Lions are supported by Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente – hence the name Dutch Lions. In case you need extra incentive to boo them, Dayton began their affiliation with MLS side Columbus Crew this season. Six players from the Crew are currently on the Dayton roster.
Reminder of other Chicagoland teams in action TODAY!
RWB Adria of the USASA travels to Livonia, MI to take on Detroit City FC. The Croatian club looks to put a damper on the little upstart from Detroit with MLS aspirations. That game kicks off at 6pm CT/7pm ET at Stevenson High School in Livonia. Check back here at Hot Time In Old Town for the result and recap of that match.
