Chicago Fire forward Nemanja Nikolic and midfielder Djordje Mihailovic have been named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 30.
The pair have earned the honors on the back of strong performances in both the Fire’s 4-1 win over San Jose last Wednesday, and Chicago’s 1-1 draw with New York City on Saturday.
Nikolic scored three goals across the two games, propelling himself to the top of the golden boot race with 21 goals on the season. Portland’s Diego Valeri and NYCFC’s David Villa (who grabbed a goal in Saturday’s match) are close behind with 20 goals each.
For 18-year-old Mihailovic, the recognition comes after the biggest week of the Homegrown player’s career. He picked up his first career goal in MLS and recorded the game-winning assist against the Earthquakes, and went the full 90 minutes against NYCFC over the weekend.
Mihailovic has been an unexpected, yet nice, surprise for the Fire this season, and has done an admirable job in the middle of the park with Schweinsteiger out injured.
