The 2017 Rosterpocalypse Is Upon Us

Repent, for the contract options are nigh

MLS: Eastern Conference Knockout Round-New York Red Bulls at Chicago Fire Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Before we get into who among the 2017 Chicago Fire will be returning next season, some music to get you into the mood.

Yes.

So without further ado, here’s the list of who’s in and who’s out with the Fire’s end-of-season roster moves:

Guaranteed for next season: David Accam, Jorge Corrales, Michael de Leeuw, Christian Dean, Johan Kappelhof, Matt Lampson, Djordje Mihailovic, Nemanja Nikolic, and Luis Solignac.

Contract options exercised: Arturo Alvarez, David Arshakyan, Jorge Bava, Brandt Bronico, Jonathan Campbell, Stefan Cleveland, Drew Conner, Daniel Johnson, Dax McCarty, Matt Polster, and Brandon Vincent.

Contract options declined (eligibility in parentheses): Joey Calistri (MLS Waiver Draft), Matej Dekovic (MLS Waiver Draft), Patrick Doody (MLS Re-Entry Draft), Collin Fernandez (MLS Waiver Draft), John Goossens (MLS Waiver Draft), Michael Harrington (Free Agency), and Richard Sanchez (MLS Re-Entry Draft).

Out of contract: Joao Meira and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Finally, the club decided not to buy the loan option for Juninho, and he will presumably be on his way out as well.

The Fire are currently in contract negotiations with Schweinsteiger and Sanchez, and it’s likely those talks will conclude by the end of the year.

So! Thoughts? Reactions?
