For the second week in a row, the Chicago Fire have a player in the MLS Team of the Week. Dax McCarty, that guy, earned a spot in this week’s best XI for his efforts in a 1-0 win over rivals Columbus Crew last Saturday.
McCarty’s performance against Columbus, was, to put it simply, incredible. He set up the only goal of the match in the 22nd minute by slotting Nemanja Nikolic through on goal. The pass from the American international was inch-perfect, and his Hungarian teammate finished it coolly.
To go along with his assist, McCarty also had an impressive passing display. He was the Fire’s best player against Columbus, and his ability going forward—and as a defender—was on display. Saturday’s match showed that the relationship between McCarty and new signing Bastian Schweinsteiger is starting to gel, and Fire fans should be encouraged going forward.
This is McCarty’s second Team of the Week appearance of the 2017 season—first earning the honors for his work in the Fire’s 2-0 home win against Real Salt Lake.
Chicago returns to the pitch on April 15 when they welcome the New England Revolution to Toyota Park. Revolution defender Mlinar Delamea was also selected to this week’s Team of the Week.
