TEAM NEWS: Paunovic signs new deal, will act as player-manager

OK, not actually. But with finishes like these, the club should consider it

After training on Thursday, Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic and German designated player Bastian Schweinsteiger decided to knock the ball around.

And what I’m sure began as nothing more than a playful exchange between the 39-year-old manager and grey-haired veteran, quickly turned into a clinic. It’s a shame that Toyota Park was empty at the time, because the goal the two linked up for would have blown the figurative roof off of the stadium:

Basti ➡️ Pauno. Casual.

The Fire aren’t exactly pressed for goals on the moment, having scored eight times in their last five matches, but if Pauno is going to be producing highlights like this, Nelson Rodriguez might as well sign him as a player.

Chicago will host Seattle on Saturday. The game kicks off at 8 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN2.
