Chicago Fire forward David Accam was nominated for the MLS Goal of the Week on Monday for his strike against the reigning MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders.
The Fire, who routed their opponents from the Pacific Northwest 4-1 on Saturday at Toyota Park, took the lead when Accam beat Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei with a strike at the near post.
The goal came after Drew Conner, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael de Leeuw combined for a neat display of passing on the right flank, eventually resulting in de Leeuw squaring the ball to an open Accam. The Ghanaian international took a quick touch to get it out of his feet, and then smashed the ball past the near post. The goal gave the Fire a 2-1 lead, and would eventually become the game-winning finish.
