North Carolina 1, Red Stars 3: Woman of the Match

Red Stars bolt out to a 3-goal lead, hold on for second straight win

Well that was fun! The Red Stars stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the first half, and held on confidently for a 3-1 win on the road over the previously high-flying North Carolina Courage. I’m tempted to give my Woman of the Match nod to Julie Ertz, because her shift to a regista role deep in midfield seemed to key Chicago’s dominance with the ball. But I’ve seen plenty of teams dominate the ball and fail to create great chances; tonight the Red Stars created some incredible chances, and most came through the feet, the movement and the mind of our resident attacking genius, Christen Press.
