The Fire are set to face their former USL affiliate, Saint Louis FC, in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup after the second division side defeated PDL side Michigan Bucks 2-1 in the third round.
The match, set to be played in Toyota Stadium at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri, presents a unique challenge for the Fire. The Men in Red have been historically bad on the road over the last few seasons, including a loss to New England at Gillette Stadium in last year’s U.S. Open Cup semifinal.
The Fire— who have made the semifinals of the tournament five of the last six seasons— will face a struggling Saint Louis team. They are winless in their last 5 league matches, and haven’t played at home in over a month.
Previous to their match against the Michigan Bucks, Saint Louis downed NPSL side FC Wichita 4-3 in a road thriller. The boys in blue and green will certainly be looking forward to their return home, and to have the support of their beloved supports, the Saint Louligans.
The match will be played on June 14, with kickoff set for 7pm.
