David Accam named the MLS Player of the Week

Shocking, we know

MLS: Orlando City SC at Chicago Fire Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports

David Accam had a great game on Saturday. Even the most hopeless of wallowers in Fire fandom could see that. And in the days following his stunning performance in the Fire’s 4-0 win over Orlando, Accam has been awash in accolades.

The latest came yesterday when the Ghanaian international was named the MLS Player of the Week.

And it’s no less than he deserves. Accam was involved in all four goals scored by the Fire on Saturday, bagging himself a hat trick and earning an assist on Nemanja Nikolic’s goal in the second half.

His three goals moved him into a tie for third place in the MLS Golden Boot race, with 10 goals to match the current haul from NYCFC’s David Villa. And with Niko alone in first place with 14 goals, that means of the five top goalscorers in the league right now, two of them are Fire players.

Doesn’t this feel nice?

The Fire are back in action tonight for a much-hyped USOC tie against FC Cincinnati. Accam will not be in the team, as he’s off on international duty.
