Sky Blue FC 2, Chicago Red Stars 2: Woman of the Match

Despite some excellent individual performances, Chicago couldn’t quite secure the win

Things were looking good for the Chicago Red Stars for long stretches of the game. Two early goals seemed to put them on track to win, even when Sky Blue FC pulled one back around the half hour mark. Some strong attacking play plus confident defending all pointed to three points for the Red Stars. But it wasn’t to be; a late equalizer for SBFC sent a dagger through Chicago’s heart. Still, plenty of good stuff from this team at the end of their road trip. We’re going to give our WOTM nod, once again, to Christen Press. She gave SB’s defense problems all night, and her ability to drift away from her markers— most notably on her first-half goal— while still staying onside was thrilling to watch.

Now let us know how you saw it. Vote for your choice for WOTM in the poll below. The poll will be open for two days, after which we’ll publicize the results. (Note: if you’re viewing this post from AMP or Apple News, you won’t see the poll below. Feel free to tell us your pick in the comments.)
