For the past week or so, Major League Soccer conducted an online poll to decide who would wear the captain’s armband for the MLS All-Star Team when they take on Real Madrid next Wednesday at Soldier Field.
Earlier today, the winner was announced.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, the Fire’s star midfielder and former Germany international, stood out in the poll and will wear the armband next Wednesday against the defending European champions.
Basti beat out NYCFC striker David Villa and Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard to win the poll, which was conducted over Snapchat. (I’m still not sure how that works. I don’t understand Snapchat. I am an Old.)
While the Fire DP did face some stiff competition, the pick isn’t too surprising. With the ASG being held in Chicago, and with Basti being so instrumental to the Fire’s tremendous worst-to-first turnaround in 2017, it’s all too fitting that the former Bayern Munich star lead the All-Star Team out.
