Following a weekend rife with speculation, the Chicago Red Stars have signed winger Kristie Mewis from the Washington Spirit.
In exchange, the Spirit pick up a conditional first-round pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft.
In order to make room on the roster, the Red Stars have also waived midfielder Morgan Proffitt.
The rumors surrounding the Mewis trade started on Saturday morning and spread through WoSo Twitter quickly.

Mewis arrived in Washington prior to the 2017 season as she was traded from her hometown club Boston Breakers. In 14 matches with the Breakers, Mewis had one goal and one assist.
The 26-year-old possesses international experience as she has 15 caps for the United States. All of which occurred while Orlando Pride coach Tom Sermanni was the boss of the Red, White & Blue.
Mewis has enjoyed a minimal increase in production since moving to Washington, scoring two goals and one assist in the 2017 campaign thus far. Mewis didn't appear for the Washington Spirit on Saturday night against the North Carolina Courage and the Spirit were uncharacteristically open about the whole situation.

With the move made official, Mewis is reuniting with former teammate and good friend Stephanie McCaffrey.
Mewis will face her now-former team on Saturday when the Red Stars travel to the Maryland Soccerplex.
