Chicago had a plethora of chances in this one. The scoreline could have easily been emblematic of that fateful Fourth of July game against Kansas City, but lone behold, the final score was only 3-0. And I wasn’t completely convinced by the performances of the Fire front four tonight. Sure, Bill Hamid was lights out between the sticks for D.C., but I expect more out of the likes of Accam, Nikolic and Solignac when they find so much space inside the technical area.
And, well, because of this, I’m going with Jonathan Campbell as my Man of the Match. The Beard was lights out for the Fire in the defensive third, and he came up big with some well-timed tackles to help Matt Lampson earn a clean sheet. It was only the North Carolina product’s 6th start of the season, but after tonight, head coach Veljko Paunovic may want to reflect upon who’s playing in his back four. Well done to The Beard, who was a linchpin in Chicago’s dominant performance tonight.
