San Jose Earthquakes 1, Chicago Fire 4: Man of the Match

For our part, there was only one choice

MLS: Chicago Fire at San Jose Earthquakes Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Savor this moment, my friends. The Chicago Fire are back in the MLS playoffs for the first time in five years. It’s been a bumpy road— especially since the Gold Cup— but the Men In Red managed to pull it together and secure a postseason berth with this bonkers 4-1 win in San Jose.

The team overall played strong through all 90 minutes, and a few players like Michael De Leeuw and Djordie Mihailovic and Richard Sanchez had incredible nights. But our pick for Man Of The Match is obvious: Nemanja Nikolic, who broke the club’s all-time single season scoring record with his 19th and 20th goals of the season and is now tied for first in the MLS Golden Boot race. For us, it really couldn’t have been anyone else.

Now let us know how you saw it. Vote for your choice for MOTM in the poll below. The poll will be open for two days, after which we’ll publicize the results. (Note: if you’re viewing this post from AMP or Apple News, you won’t see the poll below. Feel free to tell us your pick in the comments.)
