Despite a somewhat uneven league campaign, the Red Stars did well enough over 24 matchdays to earn a playoff berth. Most of us fans hoped Chicago would end the season better than they started with a good result over Portland. Instead, the Thorns controlled the game from the opening kickoff, and a late penalty snuffed out a late rally for Chicago and ensured our Red Stars would end the 2017 NWSL season in defeat.
We’re giving our WOTM nod to Sofia Huerta. The second half substitute scored that rocket of a goal late in the game to inspire a push in the waning minutes. If Chicago had any hope at all the get a result today, it was thanks to her.
Now let us know how you saw it. Vote for your choice for WOTM in the poll below. The poll will be open for two days, after which we’ll publicize the results. (Note: if you’re viewing this post from AMP or Apple News, you won’t see the poll below. Feel free to tell us your pick in the comments.)
