Earlier today, the US Women’s National Team announced the preliminary 26-player roster for the upcoming SheBelieves Cup, which will kick off on March 1st in Columbus, Ohio with a match against Germany, before heading to Harrison, New Jersey and Orlando, Florida on March 4th and 7th respectively for matches against France and England. The list featured four Chicago Red Stars, including goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher (who USWNT head coach Jill Ellis later indicated in a followup conference call will start all three matches in the tourney), reformed right back Sofia Huerta, central midfielder Julie Ertz and left back Casey Short.

Short, Ertz, and Naeher all saw consistent international playing time throughout 2017, and should likely survive the three-player cut before the team heads to Ohio, but Huerta is a newer addition to the squad and has struggled to solidify her place on the field for the US. She has only earned three cap since making the official switch from the Mexican Federation to representing US Soccer, making her debut and notching an assist on September 15th against New Zealand.

The Red Stars have always had a good showing when it comes to international call-ups, though obviously they go from their previous 6 cap-tied Americans to 4 with the departure of captain Christen Press to the Houston Dash on draft day earlier this year and short-lived Red Star Morgan Brian’s signing with Olympique Lyon.
