Watch: Schweinsteiger, N-Rod, Pauno Speak With Reporters As Preseason Winds Down

Key players and front office figures discuss the current state of the team before MLS Matchweek 1

“I feel good. I’m ready.”

So says Chicago Fire midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger less than two weeks before the first game of the regular season. The former Germany and Bayern Munich captain told reporters at the club’s media event today that the Men In Red have some unfinished business in 2018.

“We improved a lot last season, so we are maybe a bit closer to our best performance. Of course we have some new players, we have to get to know each other a little better, but I’m very happy to play with the new players and I’m looking forward to the new season.”

Club president Nelson Rodriguez also spoke with reporters today, and wasted no time in addressing the issue on everyone’s minds— the current state of the roster.

“The roster is incomplete, as it has been. We’re still looking to improve across all the lines. We’re still involved in conversations inside and outside of the league. I can’t say that anything is imminent, but we’ll keep working until we get the group assembled that we think will be the best one to give us a chance at a championship.”

Reporters also got to talk with head coach Veljko Paunovic and team captain Dax McCarty. You can hear their comments below.
