With the Portland Invitational in the books and preseason drawing to a close, the Chicago Red Stars have released their final roster for the 2018 season.
NWSL teams can have up to 20 players registered and available for league competition. The Red Stars currently have 21 players, but the league has ruled that players selected from the Dispersal Draft after the Boston Breakers folded do not count against that cap. (So, hi there, Rosie White!)
The Red Stars have four USWNT players on the roster: Julie Ertz, Alyssa Naeher, Sofia Huerta, and Casey Short. They also list three international players: White (NZL), Yuki Nagasato (JPN), and Sam Kerr (AUS).
One notable change with the release of this roster is the departure of goalkeeper Michele Dalton. The 29-year-old Wisconsin graduate joined the Red Stars in 2015 and has served as a solid back-up keeper but never quite finagled a starting slot. There were rumblings that Emily Boyd might replace her as the second choice GK given all the minutes she got in preseason. Those rumblings ended up being true.
The Red Stars kick off their 2018 season next Sunday against the Houston Dash. Look for comprehensive coverage here on Hot Time over the next week.
