This weekend the Chicago Fire had an uneventful 2-2 draw against the Portland Timbers and the Chicago Red Stars fell to the Portland Thorns FC 2-3. There were some juicy news stories beside the games and results, however.
Here is some other news that you may have missed.
Niko gets his Golden Boot
Prior to the start of Saturday’s game against the Timbers, Nemanja Nikolic received his Golden Boot for being the league’s top scorer for 2017. The trophy was president by Chicagoland native and former Chicago Fire striker Brian McBride – whom himself earned the Team Golden Boot award for the 2009 season.

Nikolic scored 24 goals last season, 2 more than the runner-up David Villa. His first goal for the club was against Real Salt Lake City and his first brace was against the New England Revolution. Nikolic earned his hat-trick towards the end of the season against the Philadelphia Union.
With three goals in three games so far in the season it looks like Nikolic might be getting another boot soon to complete the pair.
Congrats Niko, we hope you get another boot at the end of the season!
A new face in the front office
Last Thursday the club announced that Sean Dennison would be the new Senior Vice President, Communications and Media for the club. Dennison who previously worked with Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing will start his new position today on April 2nd. This position has been vacant since Doug Hicks left the club last November.
In this position, Dennison will manage all the communication affairs ranging from broadcast to social media.
“I’m excited to bring my years of experience and passion for Major League Soccer to a first-class organization,” said Dennison via the club’s website press release.
Through his prior employers, Dennison worked on events such as the MLS All-Star Game and MLS SuperDraft. He has also helped launched MLS Works which is the outreach program for the league.
