Washington Spirit vs Chicago Red Stars
Saturday, April 28th, 2018
NWSL Week 5 | Maryland SoccerPlex, Boyds MD
Kickoff: 6:00pm CT
Referee: Daniel Gutierrez
Assistant Referees: Walter Heatherly, Joe Zawistowski
4th Official: Karl Kummer
The Red Stars faced the opening handful of games with strong opposition and their best players either hurt or on another continent. The B-team took this challenge by the horns and survived this stretch of games, earning 8 points from a possible 15.
They head east to face the Spirit bolstered by two returning stars: Sam Kerr, fresh off the plane from the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, and Julie Ertz, working her way back from injury. It’s unclear whether either player will feature today, but the morale boost alone has to be worth something. The heavy hitters are coming back— and Washington, and the rest of the league, better watch out.
