In one of American soccer’s most cherished rites of spring, the MLS Player’s Association released salary info for all league players earlier today. The MLSPS releases this info every year, disclosing base salaries and total compensation for every player in Major League Soccer to the public.
Here are some of the top-line figures:
- The Chicago Fire are on the hook for $13,824,204.42 in player compensation. Of that, $8,006,333.45 is earmarked for the Fire’s two Designated Players.
- The highest paid Fire player is, obviously, Bastian Schweinsteiger. He’s taking home $6,100,000.08 in total compensation this year.
- Behind Basti is Nemanja Nikolic, with $1,906,333.37 in total compensation.
- Aleksandar Katai isn’t a DP but he’s pulling down a DP-level salary, with $1,276,333.33 in total compensation.
- Team captain Dax McCarty is getting $712,500.08 in total compensation this year.
- Diego Campos and Elliot Collier are the lowest paid members of the squad, with each earning $54,500.04 in total compensation.
- Noted Homophobic Slur Enthusiast Alan Gordon, who has scored exactly one (1) goal and has generally played like an opossum who found some Nyquil in the dumpster, is being paid $150,000 for his “contributions” this year. Money well spent!
